Accommodations

Arriving in Lucca

It is recommended that you fly into Pisa Galileo Galilei International Airport as it is the closest international airport to Lucca, only 30 kilometers away. From there you can either take the train into Lucca (approximately 20 minutes) or the bus to Lucca (approximately 30 minutes). Both options are inexpensive and easily accessible when you arrive at the airport. Simply ask for information at the information/ticket booth when you exit the baggage carousel.

Where to Stay

Once you are in Lucca, we recommend staying within walking distance to the train station for easy access to Studio Borgo.

Our students enjoy special rates and free breakfast with Hotel Universo. Although the lodging rates change according to the season, they will always be significantly lower than standard rates. Other artist workshops may offer limited, basic in-house accommodations.

However, there are many affordable 3-5 star hotels in the city center near the train station. It is a good idea to search these hotels on travel booking sites such as Expedia or Orbitz for the lowest rates.

In addition to staying within the city center of Lucca, our students also enjoy special rates in the area of the Studio Borgo Workshop at Podere San Rochino (Borgo a Mozzano) with beautifully decorated, full service apartments. Studio Borgo students will always enjoy a superior and comfortable stay in Tuscany.

During Your Stay & Getting Around

Monday & Tuesday
When you study at Studio Borgo, in a few short trains stops you will arrive in Borgo a Mozzano where our free shuttle will pick you up and take you to the studio.

If you choose to stay at San Rochino, you will be steps away from the studio, and outside the city of Lucca. San Rocchino apartments are self-service apartments complete with kitchens for cooking meals. The center of Borgo a Mozzano is approximately a ten minute walk. Traveling back to Lucca requires the same short train ride.

Wednesday & Thursday
During these days you will study within the city of Lucca during daily excursions with your instructor.

Staying at Hotel Universo or the other hotels listed offer the advantage of being in the center of the city of Lucca, perfect for excursion days within the city and short walking distance to the train station.

Friday
Students will take a scenic, relaxing train ride (about an hour and a half) to Florence and study the figure in Piazza della Signoria.

Tips For Saving on Airfare and Hotel Booking

Booking international flights too far in advance (more than 6 months) or too close to your travel date (the same month) will probably result in the highest prices. Always try to book airfare four or even three months in advance of your travel date. When going back to check your travel sites (Kayak, Expedia, Priceline, etc.), always clear your cookies from your Internet tools. And also remember that flights with layovers are usually much less expensive than direct flights.
